My original artworks are inspired by places with history, atmosphere and stories to tell. As I paint, I imagine the lives lived within these spaces and the stories they might hold. My work focuses mainly on urban and rural landscapes, although I continue to experiment with different mediums and techniques. Through sketching, photography and written observations, I document the places that draw my attention. In the studio, I combine these studies with memory and imagination to create artworks that capture a sense of place rather than an exact depiction. I work with ink, charcoal, watercolour and occasional collage. I enjoy moving between highly detailed urban pieces and the freer, more intuitive experience of drawing with charcoal and responding to the natural world.'
